Putting things in perspective, on your desktop, with your hands..

This is a great video showcasing the touch screen technology of Perceptive Pixel, Inc. Jeff Han is the main man at the company and he shows you here the future of computers, akin to PK Dick’s inspired Minority Report’s hands on computer experience sequence. Oh, and Tom Cruise was in it too!
Han’s hands navigate huge multi-touch screens controlling all aspects of various software by very clever means. This is bigger than the iPhone! Available now for those who can afford a six figure sum.

A back log of blogs…. Dark Star

Well, I have a backlog of blog entries to put in over the past few weeks. I’m gonna back date them so the blog at least appears to be kept up to date. I guess that’s cheating, but what the heck, it keeps it neat and logical and it’s better than omitting these entries altogether. So, below in a while you should see my Electric Picnic review as well as my 1st trip to Amsterdam this month to IBC. I will be back there next week for the Picnic Network. Watch this space.

So, I haven’t had much of a chance to update this as I have taken on a big documentary project which examines the debate surrounding Tara and the M3 motorway. I won’t say more about it here for the moment as I am in the thick of it. I will be soon opening a dedicated site for it. Stay tuned.

So in the meantime, here’s a little video treat. On the new Myspace TV there is a cool little channel called the 10 Minute Theater. I came across this summary of one of my favourite films “Dark Star”. If you’ve not already seen the film I don’t recommend watching this, because it ruins it of course. But that’s the point and it’s a funny review of it. “Dark Star” is a very low budget film from the beginning of John Carpenter’s career. You’ll either love it or hate it. It is quite ridiculous and that’s why I like it! It’s got talking bombs, need I say more! So here it is, summed up, in ten minutes. I also found the script for the original short film version here.

Enjoy.

Liisa Lounila Exhibition

Liisa Lounila - Play

Finnish artist Liisa Lounila currently has an exhibition of her work at the Gallery Of Photography in Meeting House Square in Dublin. Her work was introduced to me a few months back by my friend Leo and I was very impressed. She makes time sliced photographs into a 3D experience similar to the techniques used in the film The Matrix. “Popcorn” was my first introduction and it is a scene of some people throwing popcorn at each other. This is shown here as well as “Gig” and my favourite piece “Play”, which is a number of scenes at a nightclub tied together in this style of frozen life. Also on display are some photos in lightboxes which move when you move and hurt your eyes a bit and some LCD belt-buckles which could well be the rage come 2010!!
Go check it out, it runs from August 15 – September 19. For more info, check out Scene Missing, the portfolio site of the artist where you can view the work, but as always it’s best to see it in the gallery!
